Sounds simple, but it can be a task where a small mistake can cause a lot of problems! So when replacing a light bulb make sure that you have the correct wattage for the fitting (this is often written somewhere on the fitting so take a good look), and that the fitting itself is either bayonet or screw in before you go to the store to buy it! How many times have you come home with the wrong fitting?
A bulb in a lamp with a wattage too high can result in your lampshade catching on fire, or depending on the material, melting! I have seen a few in my time!
